Dr. Rene Wingerter

Owner, Veterinarian

As a little girl, Dr. Rene Wingerter loved animals so much that she would make just about anything her pet. One day, a neighbor saw her pushing a toy stroller and was surprised to discover a praying mantis inside instead of a doll! Dr. Wingerter’s passion for all living creatures never wavered, and her veterinary journey has resulted in her owning and operating her very own animal clinic: the Animal Hospital of Lanesville.

Dr. Wingerter grew up on the northeast side of Indianapolis with her parents and three older brothers. She attended Purdue University to complete two years of pre-veterinary studies, then began volunteering at an animal clinic in Castleton, Indiana to gain experience. She applied to Purdue’s School of Veterinary Medicine during her junior year of undergrad, and was overjoyed to be accepted into the program.

While driving to and from her job in a southern Indiana veterinary clinic after graduating with her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine, Dr. Wingerter always passed the building that would become the Animal Hospital of Lanesville and thought how wonderful it would be to open her own practice there. Her dream came true, and she’s been practicing veterinary medicine here ever since! Dr. Wingerter has special interests in dentistry and surgery, and is also passionate about preventative care techniques like vaccinations, spays, and neuters.

Outside of her interests in the veterinary world, Dr. Wingerter enjoys horseback riding, hiking, scuba diving, and volunteering her time at the local animal shelter. She lives in the country with her husband, their young daughter, and several pets. The family shares their lives with two dogs named Goobers and Annie, a cat named Rascle, and Dr. Wingerter’s horse of nearly 30 years, Ann.
